Phil Anschutz Set To Exit Sports With Sale Of AEG

Anschutz Co. late yesterday announced that it is "seeking a buyer for its AEG subsidiary," the sports and entertainment entity whose properties include Staples Center, L.A. Live, the NHL Kings and MLS Galaxy, as well as stakes in the Lakers and Dynamo. AEG's plans to build NFL-ready Farmers Field are "expected to proceed" (L.A. TIMES, 9/19). Anschutz Co. President Cannon Harvey said that the parent company, controlled by Phil Anschutz, "isn't considering selling AEG in pieces." The NBA, NHL and MLS "all would likely need to approve any new owner of AEG's professional sports holdings" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 9/19).
