U.S. Men's Basketball Team Begins Training Today In Las Vegas

The U.S. men's national basketball team begins training camp for the London Games today at noon PT at UNLV's Mendenhall Center. The team will train for six days prior to a Thursday exhibition against the Dominican Republic. The June 18 deadline for finalizing the roster was pushed back to tomorrow after "injuries depleted the original 20-man roster." USA Basketball Chair Jerry Colangelo said that "nine of the spots are already guaranteed," leaving six players competing for three spots (LAS VEGAS SUN, 7/6).

Also today in Las Vegas, the LeBron James Skills Academy gets underway. The event had been in Ohio but was relocated this summer due to James playing on the national team. About 80 top high school players and "more than 20 top college players will participate" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 7/6).
