Today Is Deadline For SI Writers, Editors To Accept Voluntary Buyout
Today marks the deadline for Sports Illustrated writers and editors to "volunteer for a buyout package," as SI Group Editor Terry McDonell tries to reduce costs by an estimated $3M. McDonell told staff "weeks ago that if he did not get enough volunteers then involuntary layoffs will follow." A source said that he "expected few volunteers to step forward, especially among print people on the main weekly edition covered by a Newspaper Guild collective-bargaining agreement." A "big reorganization" is expected after the layoffs (N.Y. POST, 7/6).
