Hawaii Official Says Pro Bowl Talks Will Take Place After Super Bowl

Hawaii Tourism Authority President Michael McCartney said there will likely be "no announcement on sites for future Pro Bowls" until after Super Bowl XLVI. McCartney watched Sunday's Pro Bowl with league officials and said that he "did not expect serious negotiation to take place until later." The NFL's contract to stage its all-star game in Hawaii expired after this year's game, which had an announced attendance of 48,423 (Honolulu STAR-ADVERTISER, 1/30). Aloha Stadium has a capacity of 50,000 (THE DAILY).

Meanwhile, the NHL All-Star Weekend was held in Ottawa and an above-capacity crowd of 20,510 attended Sunday's game at Scotiabank Place (ESPN.com, 1/29). Nearly 30,000 people attended the three-day Fan Fair at Ottawa Convention Centre, "where so many NHL all stars and former players were milling around." Senators Owner Eugene Melnyk: "The whole weekend has been beyond what I expected as far as the amount of electricity in the air. The people stepped up and really became ambassadors for the city of Ottawa" (OTTAWA CITIZEN, 1/30).
