LG Extends NCAA Partnership Through '15 Men's Basketball Tourney

By Michael Smith

LG has extended its NCAA corporate partnership for three more years in the home entertainment, appliance and mobile phone categories. The deal was brokered by Turner Sports and CBS, which jointly manage and sell the NCAA’s marketing rights and arranged this agreement. That means LG will be an NCAA partner through the '15 NCAA men's basketball tournament. “This will provide LG with a longer runway to plan and activate,” said Turner Senior VP/NCAA Partnerships Will Funk. Funk is announcing the extension today, along with CBS Sports Senior VP/Sales & Marketing Chris Simko. LG works with Mindshare for media, Octagon for strategy and activation, PowerPact for retail promotions and LG Ad for creative advertising.

Santa Clara City Council Rejects 49ers Stadium Referendum

The Santa Clara City Council last night voted 5-2 to reject a referendum advocated by a group opposed to building a 49ers stadium. The move comes after elections officials verified the group's "petition to put the project back on the ballot," an action that would cost the city $2.9-4M. Opponents and city leaders are now "deadlocked in heated disagreement over whether it is legal to ask voters a second time to decide the project's fate, leaving both sides to concede the argument is destined for court" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 1/25).
