Deal Reached To Maintain Live Horse Racing In Maryland Next Year
The Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association has agreed to "continue to provide financial assistance" to the Maryland Jockey Club, the "money-losing operator of Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course." The sides agreed Saturday to maintain 146 days of live racing in '12. This comes less than three weeks before the start of the '12 season and prevents a "logjam that threatened the industry's future." The deal today is scheduled to go before the Maryland Racing Commission for approval (Baltimore SUN, 12/20).
