Patriots President Jonathan Kraft will attend today's CBA negotiation session in place of Patriots Owner Robert Kraft, whose wife lost her battle with cancer yesterday morning. Myra Kraft's funeral is tomorrow morning and "someone else from the organization could cast the vote" to approve a new CBA if there is a delay (BOSTON GLOBE, 7/21).

Cavaliers Owner Dan Gilbert said that he will announce "an addition to a venture capital company focused on rebuilding Detroit, and a tweet" from Basketball HOFer Magic Johnson "suggests it's him." Gilbert's spokespersons said that "a sports legend" would be the newest member of Detroit Venture Partners (AP, 7/21).

The Pacific Legal Foundation, on behalf of the American Sports Council, plans to file a lawsuit today against the U.S. Department of Education "alleging that Title IX enforcement in high school athletics programs is unconstitutional because it violates the equal protection clause" (USA TODAY, 7/21).

Top Rank President Todd duBoef said that Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito, "who are putting the finishing touches on a deal for a Dec. 3 rematch," will fight at Madison Square Garden (ESPN.com, 7/20).

A CenturyLink Field-record soccer crowd of 67,052 attended last night's Manchester United-Sounders FC match in Seattle. ManU defeated the Sounders 7-0 (SEATTLE TIMES, 7/21).

A record crowd of 46,588 attended the opening day of Del Mar Thoroughbred Club's 72nd summer meeting, topping the track's previous high of 45,309 set during last year's opening day (L.A. TIMES, 7/21).
