London 2012 Website Struggles To Cope With Demand For Tickets

The '12 London Olympics website today "struggled to cope with the demand" after the window for the second round of ticket sales opened at 6:00am London time. Many would-be ticket buyers "failed to get their online applications to go through." They were instead directed to a page saying, "We are experiencing high demand. You will be automatically directed to the page requested as soon as it becomes available." A LOCOG spokesperson said, "The system is working, it has not crashed. Due to high demand some people are being held outside the system" (THETIMES.co.uk, 6/24).

The roughly 2.3 million tickets for sale in this round included seats for basketball, boxing, field hockey, judo, volleyball and Greco-Roman wrestling (TELEGRAPH.co.uk, 6/24).
