Sellout Crowd Sees Real Salt Lake Fall Short Of Historic Win

MLS Real Salt Lake lost 1-0 to Monterrey of Mexico last night in the second and final leg of the CONCACAF Champions League Final in front of a sold-out crowd of 20,378 fans at Rio Tinto Stadium. Monterrey now advances to the FIFA Club World Cup (THE DAILY).

The SALT LAKE TRIBUNE's Kurt Kragthorpe writes, "The atmosphere was unlike anything in the franchise's seven-year existence. The sellout crowd, the streamers and the chants all played into a night of possibilities. RSL was on the verge of establishing itself as one of the best teams in the world." The DESERET NEWS' Brad Rock writes, "Soccer nations view the American game as inferior. That changed a little this spring as Real Salt Lake came close. Defeating Monterrey would have been one large step toward respectability."
