London 2012 Ticket Website Swamped In Final Hours Of Window

LOCOG said that it "won't extend the ticketing deadline any further" after the '12 London Games ticketing website experienced "severe problems" last night in the final hours of a six-week balloting window. The site was "overwhelmed with millions of last day applications, including hundreds of thousands of orders in the final hours," which prevented last-minute applicants from submitting their orders for seats. LOCOG extended the deadline to 1:00am local time this morning, an extra 61 minutes beyond the original deadline (TELEGRAPH.co.uk, 4/27).

A message on the website told would-be ticketbuyers to "try again later." A LOCOG spokesperson said that "some people had been experiencing a 'temporary delay' because of a surge in applications and apologised for the inconvenience" (LONDON TIMES, 4/27).
