NHL GMs Expected To Address Hits To Head At Annual Meetings

NHL GMs today will begin their three-day annual meetings in Boca Raton, Fla. The GMs, "under pressure from medical researchers, owners and even players," are expected to strengthen Rule 48, the league's bylaw governing checks to the head that was instituted this season (NYTIMES.com, 3/12). The challenge is "to be seen as responding to the problem without doing so in a knee-jerk manner" (TORONTO STAR, 3/13). The GMs are "considered the main force for change in the NHL" (GLOBE & MAIL, 3/14).

ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun offers a rundown of some of the measures that will be on the table to limit the threat of concussions and dangerous hits (ESPN.com, 3/12).
