Library Of Congress Acquires 6,000 Sports TV And Radio Recordings

The Library of Congress today will announce that it has acquired and plans to make public more than 6,000 sports-themed radio and TV recordings of "memorable games and colorful calls." The archive belonged to John Miley, a retired businessman who lives in Evansville, Ind. Gene DeAnna, head of the Library's recorded sound section, said that the recordings – which include baseball, football, auto racing, thoroughbred racing, hockey and tennis – "will eventually help the library create online sports audio exhibits" (N.Y. TIMES, 3/9).
