Court Filing Of Lawsuit Against Mets Expected To Be Unveiled

Bernie Madoff trustee Irving Picard and attorneys for Mets Owner Fred Wilpon and team President Saul Katz today are expected to unseal the court filing of Picard's lawsuit. Two attorneys involved in the case said that the suit "cites at least two instances in which third parties – in one case the investment bank Merrill Lynch – made clear their concerns to Wilpon and Katz about investing with Madoff." The men "continued investing with Madoff for years" (N.Y. TIMES, 2/4).

A source close to the Wilpons said that Sterling Equities, the firm controlled by Wilpon and Katz, "will have statements from the Mets owners and from attorneys as soon as they are legally permitted to speak on the matter" (Bergen RECORD, 2/4).
