Franchise Notes

In Ottawa, Bruce Garrioch reported the sale of the Senators to prospective buyer Michael Andlauer “likely won’t close until September” and if he “wants to make any changes, he can’t do anything until everything is complete.” Until then, Andlauer will be “kept informed of moves the Senators are making.” GM Pierre Dorion will “operate as he usually does” between now and when Andlauer officially takes ownership. But there may be “another layer attached to making moves” because Senators Governor Sheldon Plener, as a “courtesy to the incoming owner, may have to contact” NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly about any move. From there, Daly will “inform Andlauer of a pending trade, contract signing or whatever other business that needs to be addressed” (OTTAWA SUN, 6/20).

SEEING STICKER SHOCK: In Fort Worth, Mac Engel noted select ticket prices for the Mavericks are “increasing between 8 to 10 percent for the 2023-’24 season.” Engel wrote after the “type of season the Mavs’ concluded, doing anything to the price of a ticket other than slashing it is always a bad headline waiting to happen.” The cost to attend a Mavericks game is “pricey” but it is “also below the NBA median” (FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 6/20).
