Univ. of Miami looks to modernize with plan for new football operations center

The Univ. of Miami's newly revealed plan to “build a new football operations center” comes after the school had been “criticized for years for their facilities being behind other major college programs," according to Susan Miller Degnan of the MIAMI HERALD. The new facility, what the school calls the "'forever home' for Hurricanes football," will encompass "more than 172,000 square feet, with the overall project exceeding 215,000 square feet.” UM AD Dan Radakovich said the facility is going to “provide our football program with a state-of-the-art complex that will give us everything we need all in one building.” Degnan noted the school has “partnered with Arquitectonica and HOK to design the project,” which includes a "seven-story football operations building.” The seventh floor's “centerpiece” is a "7,500-square-foot rooftop terrace with views of campus and Miami skyline that includes a digital media lab and Name, Image and Likeness suite and multipurpose gymnasium.” The fourth floor will feature an "auditorium, team meeting rooms and 'primary recruiting lounge and recruiting reception area,'" while the third floor includes “athletic training and medical facilities with hydrotherapy.” UM will soon “reveal its fundraising campaign for the project,” which is “expected to exceed” $100M (MIAMI HERALD, 1/4).
