Former D.C. United general counsel CHRISTOPHER DEUBERT has accused team owner JASON LEVIEN of "tax fraud in D.C. and New York, alleging he lived in one of those two cities but used a Florida address to evade taxes for years" -- claims that Levien "refutes and New York officials have opted not to carry forward.” Deubert, who served as general counsel from 2018 to 2021, filed the complaint in 2021 against Levien in N.Y. Supreme Court "under the False Claims Act," but was "recently unsealed." Levien “refutes the allegations,” which the N.Y. state attorney general’s office “declined to take up as a case.” In a statement, Levien said, “It was a baseless and reckless set of accusations, so we aren't surprised by the outcome from New York” (BIZJOURNALS.com, 12/19).
