NRG Stadium roof not fully functioning for most recent home game

An NRG Stadium official said the venue's roof "wouldn't open" for Sunday's Chiefs-Texans game, according to Brian Smith of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. The roof was "supposed to be open" for the game, but the team on Sunday morning tweeted that high winds and colder temperatures led to a change in decision. However, NRG Park GM Mark Miller said that the roof “didn't fully open.” The initial effort to open the roof “began as 9:30 a.m. approached,” while both teams were “beginning pregame warmups.” Miller: “We tried to open it. It wouldn’t open. It cut off on safeties.” He added, “We decided the safest bet was to close it and keep it closed.” The Texans’ final home game of the 2022 season is Jan. 1 against the Jaguars. The Texans have “not played a game with the roof open this season” and had it “open just once in 2021.” The roof’s total cost has been estimated at about $48M (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 12/19).
