Former Canucks employee files discrimination complaint against team

Former Canucks employee RACHEL DOERRIE last week "filed a complaint against the team," alleging "discrimination by the organization when she was fired” in September, according to Ryan Clark of ESPN.com. Doerrie yesterday “tweeted out a copy of the complaint, which was filed by her legal representative on Nov. 22" and alleges that Canucks Assistant GM EMILIE CASTONGUAY “made discriminatory comments about her mental health while Doerrie was still employed by the team.” The Canucks hired Doerrie in January as an analyst, and she was "promoted over the summer to work with the coaching staff." The complaint alleges that Castonguay “called Doerrie into her office" after Doerrie reposted a story about her promotion from her Instagram account and "raised concerns about her posting the article and speaking with the media.” Doerrie alleged that Castonguay said to her, "I don't know if you have what it takes to do the job, mentally." Doerrie said that she then “met with the team's human resources department and told it Castonguay had ‘crossed the line’ with her remarks about Doerrie's mental ability to do the job.” Hours later, Doerrie “was fired.” Castonguay yesterday in a statement called Doerrie's allegations "absolutely not true." Canucks Sports & Entertainment yesterday in a statement said that it "provided Doerrie with 'all the necessary resources, support and opportunities' for her to succeed in the role" (ESPN.com, 11/27).
