NFL rule to blame for RedZone audience missing Raiders-Seahawks ending

NFL RedZone yesterday “pulled the plug” on the Raiders-Seahawks OT thriller when it was the “only game still being played,” according to Mike Florio of PRO FOOTBALL TALK. Per a source, that is “the rule.” RedZone “isn’t Sunday Ticket.” When only "one game is still being played on RedZone, the RedZone broadcast ends, in deference to Fox or CBS." The problem in this case was “exacerbated" by the fact that RedZone host Scott Hanson mistakenly “told the audience to watch the rest of the game on CBS.” Hanson has tweeted that he thought the game was "being televised nationally.” But it was a “regional broadcast with a small national footprint” (NBCSPORTS.com, 11/27). THE RINGER’s Rodger Sherman writes the NFL “probably shouldn’t be sending viewers who want to watch football over to channels that aren’t showing football.” Sherman: “I somewhat get the idea that local markets must show local games, even if it means cutting away from a more exciting out-of-market game. But who benefits from making it nearly impossible to watch a thriller like Raiders-Seahawks?” (THE RINGER, 11/28).
