Franchise Notes

In Cleveland, Nate Ulrich notes the ice on which Browns coach Kevin Stafanski "stands has melted some” this year. Whether it “becomes thin enough” for owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam to make a coaching change at the end of “what's still likely to become a wasted Browns season could hinge on whether Stefanski can convince them -- and Deshaun Watson -- he is capable of maximizing the elite talent the controversial quarterback possesses.” Watson needs “to feel good about” his coach and the “direction of the franchise." The next six weeks are "shaping up to be more significant" for Stefanski's future (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 11/28).

THROWING IT BACK: In Seattle, Bob Condotta noted the Seahawks will “wear throwback uniforms from the 1990s era at some point in the 2023 season.” The announcement was made on the team's website and during a “brief video” tease during their game against the Raiders yesterday. The Seahawks “moved away from their traditional uniforms” in 2002 when the team moved to Lumen Field and then “underwent another redesign” in 2012. Condotta noted “many NFL teams have worn throwback uniforms” but the Seahawks “were unable to due to the league’s ‘one helmet’ rule” (SEATTLE TIMES, 11/27).

SENATORS SALE SITE SET TO LAUNCH: In Ottawa, Bruce Garioch noted the sale of the Senators "could heat up" this week. While there are “concerns the launch of the due diligence website by New York-based sports banker Galatioto Sports Partners (GSP) may be delayed, the target is to allow potential buyers to look at the club’s financials as early as Thursday.” The site will include “the club’s memorandum of understanding with the National Capital Commission for a new downtown arena at LeBreton Flats." This will allow all of the suitors to "decide whether they want to be serious about making a bid or not.” More than 20 groups “reached out to Galatioto or the NHL’s head office to express interest” (OTTAWA SUN, 11/27).
