Jim Irsay says owners need more involvement in deciding Snyder's status

Colts owner Jim Irsay “isn’t backing down” from his remarks that consideration should be given to the removal of Commanders owner Daniel Snyder, according to Maske & Jhabvala of the WASHINGTON POST. Irsay on Friday said that he and other owners “must remain engaged and vigilant to ensure they make the appropriate decision about Snyder’s status” once former U.S. attorney Mary Jo White “completes her ongoing league-commissioned investigation of Snyder and the Commanders." Irsay said that the owners are the "NFL’s stakeholders” and they “must take control of the process, rather than allow it to be directed by Commissioner Roger Goodell or the league.” Irsay said he is “not sure how that report’s going to come out, but what already has come out is extremely disturbing, and I disagree with the process.” He added, “I most likely disagree that we haven’t discussed something more severe such as him being removed as owner. As I said, it’s not something that I’m saying we should do. I’m saying it’s something that has to be given serious consideration.” Irsay “expressed dissatisfaction with the level of involvement he and other owners had” in the NFL’s punishment of Snyder and the Commanders in July 2021, following a previous investigation of the team’s workplace. Irsay on Fridays made “several references to the 'so-called suspension'" given to Snyder following attorney Beth Wilkinson’s investigation. He said that that he "'remains unclear' about the terms of the 2021 penalties following public comments made this week" by John Brownlee, an attorney for Snyder and the Commanders (WASHINGTON POST, 10/29).
