NASCAR looks to build championship buzz in Phoenix with ad placements

This weekend marks the third straight year that Phoenix will host NASCAR’s championship weekendGoogle Earth

Even though the race is already sold out, NASCAR has bought advertising placements and billboards all over Phoenix to build buzz around this weekend’s NASCAR championship event, including two 3D billboards near the Suns’ Footprint Center. This weekend marks the third straight year that Phoenix will host NASCAR’s championship weekend, when it determines the winner of all three of its national series’ playoffs. Officials from NASCAR first announced back in May that the Cup Series championship race was sold out at the 42,000-seat venue. Nonetheless, NASCAR wants to make a splash in the city so it’s purchased a 10-story wrap on the Arizona Center and others at the convention center and airport. It also worked with Legends and the ad agency Viztek to create a 3D billboard that shows a person-less pitstop being performed on a virtual version of 2021 champion Kyle Larson’s No. 5 Chevrolet. Legends owns the ad space and NASCAR is effectively renting it. The cost of the ad spend by NASCAR was unclear.
