New allegations against Hockey Canada lead to renewed calls for leadership change

Canadian Minister of Sport Pascale St-Onge is "once again calling for change in Hockey Canada’s leadership in the wake of new allegations against the troubled sporting body," according to the CP. It was reported earlier this week that Hockey Canada put player registration fees "toward a second fund used to cover sexual assault claims and other lawsuits." St-Onge said it "shows a total lack of transparency" and that "sexual violence has been treated as an insurance problem at Hockey Canada instead of a systemic problem that needs to be addressed at the root of the problem.” St-Onge: “Anything that should happen with Hockey Canada from now on should happen with new leadership. I don’t see how they can rebuild trust having the same people that didn’t do enough in the past decades.” Hockey Canada BOD Chair Michael Brind’Amour is the "only executive to resign so far." Brind’Amour and interim BOD Chair Andrea Skinner are "both set to appear in front of a federal government committee" today about "how the sporting body has handled allegations of sexual assault" (CP, 10/3).
