Red Sox's Bloom addresses team's performance and offseason outlook

The Red Sox have been in last place in the AL East since late July and Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom’s ability to build a team is "being questioned after once being praised,” according to Peter Abraham of the BOSTON GLOBE. Bloom said the change in fans' feelings about his job performance is “all part of the experience.” He added, "We haven’t played well this year. When that happens and you’re in the chair I’m in, you’re going to get criticized. It’s deserved.” Bloom on the Red Sox exceeding the luxury-tax threshold and still finishing in last place said, “We know how it happened and we knew when we made the decisions we did at the trade deadline that there was a possibility it could go this way." He added, "We felt fortunate to have the backing (from ownership) to be able to prioritize trying to accomplish both goals of staying in the race and improving the organization without prioritizing the luxury tax.” Bloom noted the organization is “going to look at every option we have" with the "flexibility that we have financially.” He said there "absolutely is going to be time” to fix the team's issues in the offseason, but "not every problem is solved by writing a check or making a trade.” He also said it is “hard to see” the long-term prospects of the organization when looking at the Red Sox's record, but the team has “dramatically improved our farm system” (BOSTON GLOBE, 10/2).
