Monahan: PGA Tour still not willing to work with LIV Golf

Jay Monahan reiterated that the Tour was committed to its strategic alliance with the DP World TourGetty Images

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan reiterated that reaching a deal with LIV Golf is “off the table, and has been for a long period of time.” Monahan said, “We’re going to focus on the things that we control. We have more assets at our disposal, stronger partnerships and we have the best players in the world telling us not only are they going to commit to play more, but they’re really looking at the organization to accomplish that. It’s all about where we are and where we’re going.” Monahan’s latest comments come after Greg Norman last week said LIV was not interested in working with the Tour. Meanwhile, Monahan talked about the Tour’s new set-up and noted the players “really thought long and hard about what are the things we can continue to do to strengthen the PGA Tour to put the best competitive product forward for fans.” Monahan: “As you look at ’23, those changes are going to happen within the context of our schedule.” He also talked about the PGA Tour’s strategic alliance with the DP World Tour and said, “We are one. … There’s really no limit to what we can do” (“Live From the Presidents Cup,” Golf Channel, 9/21).
