Big 12 goes through major conference office reorganization

The Big 12 has reorganized its Dallas-based conference office to include “a new business vertical, modernization of titles, and depth in staffing and promotions,” Commissioner Brett Yormark said yesterday. The reorg will contain 12 new positions and a 13th open position has been created by the departure of Kelvin Smith, the conference’s general counsel and a 2022 SBJ Forty Under 40 honoree, who left the Big 12 recently to join Fanatics as a VP in its collectibles business. Big 12 exec Ed Stewart departed last month for USC to become a senior exec associate AD over the football program.

As part of the restructuring, the Big 12 now has established verticals for:

  • Office of the Commissioner
  • Accounting & Human Services
  • Communications
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
  • Governance
  • Legal Affairs & Compliance
  • Marketing, Branding & Licensing
  • Sales & Ticketing
  • Sports & Championship Administration
  • Television, Digital Production & Technology
