Mobile Premier League Raises $150 Million to Fuel Esports Growth

Mobile Premier League, an esports organizer based in India, has raised a Series E funding round led by Legatum Capital. Terms of the round were not announced, but people familiar with the raise told SportTechie it was worth $150 million to value the MPL at $2.3 billion. 

Founded in 2018, the Mobile Premier League says 85 million users globally have registered for its app, which offers more than 70 mobile games such as 8-Ball Pool and Fruit Chop. The company has more than 800 employees world-wide. 

Indian nation team cricket star Virat Kohli is an existing investor in the MPL, which launched its app in the U.S. in July. It is targeting 300,000 U.S. users and hoping for more than $100 million in gross merchandise value by the end of this year. 

“Our U.S. operations are off to a promising start, and we’re thus fulfilling our resolve to make our platform the esports and gaming hub of the world,” MPL CEO Sai Srinivas said in a statement.
