MLB Franchise Notes: Tigers not ready to deviate from plan

In Detroit, Chris McCosky writes Tigers fans were "hoping to see a glimmer of light this year" under new manager A.J. Hinch, but it has "been more intractable darkness." However, the Tigers are "not going to blow up the plan now, especially with another vital draft a few months away." Tigers Chair & CEO Christopher Ilitch "signed off on this plan," and he is going to let Exec VP/Baseball Operations & GM Al Avila "see it all the way through." The team also is "coming off a lost year with the pandemic and no minor-league development." The fourth year of the Tigers plan, or third year if '20 is subtracted, was "never going to be the breakthrough year" (DETROIT NEWS, 5/4).

VACCINE DISCOUNT: In Cleveland, Andrew Tobias reports the Indians are "offering a $5 ticket discount to fans who can show they’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19." Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine during a state coronavirus briefing yesterday announced the promotion. There are "limitations -- the offer is only good for regularly priced upper box and upper reserve tickets, and during three series:" May 7-9 against the Reds, May 11-12 against the Cubs and May 21-23 against the Twins (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 5/4).

OFFERING A SHOT: In Seattle, Ryan Divish reports COVID-19 vaccinations "will be part of Mariners’ baseball games moving forward," as the team will "offer eligible fans COVID-19 vaccines at T-Mobile Park on game days," beginning with tonight's game against the Orioles. Eligible fans will have the choice of a "single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine" or a "first dose of the Moderna vaccine" (SEATTLE TIMES, 5/4).
