Media Notes

On Long Island, Neil Best noted WFAN’s Craig Carton and Evan Roberts "inched past" ESPN N.Y.'s "The Michael Kay Show" in afternoon drivetime radio ratings for January. From Jan. 7-Feb. 3 among men ages 25-54 -- the "key target demographic for both stations" -- the WFAN program "averaged 5.6% of the listening audience" from 3:00-7:00pm ET compared to 5.5% for ESPN. Kay "dominated that time slot" for most of '20, but when Carton replaced Joe Benigno for the final month of the year, he and Roberts "trimmed Kay’s lead significantly" (NEWSDAY, 2/24).

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER: In Las Vegas, Jim Barnes reports "tape-delayed coverage of the World Series of Poker Main Event will air" at 5:00pm PT Sunday on ESPN2. There "was no live TV coverage" of the '20 Main Event, which finished Jan. 3 at the Rio in Las Vegas. Longtime WSOP announcer Lon McEachern and poker pro Jamie Kerstetter "will host four straight hours of Main Event coverage Sunday" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 2/25).

STEPPING IN THE RING: A&E Network beginning on April 18 will air a Sunday night block of WWE-related programming for 10 weeks. New documentaries on WWE stars like Bret Hart, Steve Austin and Randy Savage will run under the “Biography” banner at 8:00pm ET. That will be followed by the new program “WWE’s Most Wanted Treasures,” in which Stephanie McMahon and Paul “Triple H” Levesque look for some of the company’s more iconic memorabilia (A&E/WWE).
