Longtime Texans President Jamey Rootes Resigns From Position

The "long-rumored departure" of Texans President Jamey Rootes became official this morning when he "informed his staff that he has resigned, ending his more than 20-year association with the organization," according to John McClain of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. Rootes’ resignation is "effective immediately." He "helped make the Texans one of the most financially profitable franchises in the NFL." Rootes said, "The organization is in a great place from a business perspective. We’ve got a great leadership team. I thought the time was right for me to do something different. I’m young enough to find a new opportunity to create something new.” Rootes said that he "plans to take off at least six months to spend more time with his family." He will "continue to promote his book, teach at the University of Houston and do some public speaking." Rootes’ longtime right-hand man, Texans Senior VP/Corporate Development Greg Grissom, "will oversee the business operation until a new president is hired" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 2/10).
