Magic's $70M Training Center To Help Serve Area Health Needs

The Magic's new training center near Amway Center also will serve as a sports medicine center for the Central Florida region, with the goal to "establish standards of care that can be applied to athletes regardless of their age or competition level," according to Roy Parry of the ORLANDO SENTINEL. AdventHealth physicians and clinical leaders are "working with the Magic to develop a medical and wellness model for players to optimize performance, reduce injuries and extend career longevity." In addition to giving current players access to the latest training tools, the new facility also "could help the Magic in the free-agent market." Construction is underway and the $70M facility is scheduled to open in the spring of '22, having been "delayed about one year due to the coronavirus pandemic." The new training center "will provide the Magic with two basketball courts for practice; expanded strength and conditioning, training and recovery facilities; aquatic spaces; sports science and nutrition facilities; and cutting-edge audio-video and imaging technology." AdventHealth's 33,300-square-foot medical center "will provide patient care for the Orlando community." The team also will "host a Healthcare Heroes Night to recognize and thank healthcare workers for their efforts during the coronavirus pandemic and beyond." The team will "provide tickets to home games for healthcare workers" throughout the remainder of the '20-21 season (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 1/26).
