Golf's Players Championship To Sell Tickets At 20% Capacity In March

Fans and corporate guests must wear masks, even when outdoors and following the golfersGETTY IMAGES

The Players Championship will "sell tickets that equal 20 percent capacity in normal years for the tournament on March 11-14 at the TPC Sawgrass," according to Gary Smits of the FLORIDA TIMES-UNION. Tournament Exec Dir Jared Rice said that corporate hospitality also "will be limited, with all venues built as open-air to mitigate the possible spread" of COVID-19. Fans and corporate guests will "have to wear masks -- even when outdoors, following the golfers -- and other safeguards will include temperature checks, social distancing and contactless ticketing and vending." A priority list of past ticket holders and who Rice described as “stakeholders,” will be able to purchase tickets beginning Feb. 1 after receiving an email. Tickets that are "left over and fall within the parameters of 20 percent of maximum capacity for the tournament will go on public sale on Feb. 16." Rice said that efforts will be "made to engage fans through the Tour’s 'Every Shot Live' digital platform, other TV and digital platforms and sponsoring watch parties at area restaurants since there will not be public hospitality venues." He added that there would be "no Patriots Outpost venue for active-duty and retired military, but there would be complimentary and reduced-price tickets" (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 1/26).
