Heat To Use COVID-Detection Dogs When Allowing Fans At Games

Heat fans attending games at AmericanAirlines Arena this year “will be scanned by COVID-19 detection dogs upon arrival,” according to Anthony Chiang of the MIAMI HERALD. The Heat last week announced plans to allow less than 2,000 fans to six games from Jan. 28-Feb. 9. If someone “in a specific party is signaled by a canine, all members of that party will not be permitted inside the arena.” A staff member will then “discuss the next steps on what to do with the tickets.” The dog “will take a seated position if COVID-19 is detected, otherwise moving past attendees.” Additionally, all fans “sitting within 30 feet of the court will be required to undergo an on-site rapid test upon arrival at the arena prior to the game before being cleared to sit at their seats” (MIAMI HERALD, 1/22). In Ft. Lauderdale, Ira Winderman notes the dogs “have been specifically trained to identify the active virus, and will not signal if someone entering has received the vaccine” (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 1/22).
