MLS will extend more of the enhanced sponsorship opportunities from the '20 season through '21, including goal-line carpets and inner bowl branding, according to sources. Both areas are seen as opportunities for new revenue in addition to make-goods. Sources said that the goal-line carpets, or sponsor signage next to each goal, can be utilized by clubs during local matches only. Goal-line carpets can be virtual or physical. Designs must be submitted in advance to the league for final approval. Meanwhile, teams can also execute inner-bowl branding via physical tarps or virtual signage, according to sources. In '21, teams can leverage this sponsorship opportunity during local matches and possibly for national television broadcasts. For this upcoming season, clubs will be allowed to rotate sponsor positions within the inner bowl once per half, a source said. Teams in '20 could not rotate positioning at all throughout matches.
