Media Notes: McMurray Steps Out Of Fox Studio To Race At Daytona

FOXSPORTS.com’s Bob Pockrass reports Fox NASCAR studio analyst Jamie McMurray will “compete in the 2021 Daytona 500, driving the Spire Motorsports No. 77 Chevrolet.” The car “will be prepared by Chip Ganassi Racing, with sponsorship from AdventHealth.” McMurray, who won the Daytona 500 in '10, “hasn’t raced in two full years.” He will continue in his role on Fox’ prerace shows and “NASCAR Race Hub” outside of Daytona (FOXSPORTS.com, 1/19).

URBAN RENEWAL: THE ATHLETIC’s Richard Deitsch reports Fox is “interested in finding another coach that can work within the current framework” of its “Big Noon Kickoff” college football pregame show to replace recent Jaguars hire Urban Meyer. The net has been “approached by agents of available college football coaches,” but Fox is “going to survey what is out there over the next couple of months before making any hires.” But replacing Meyer with an "equal hire given his name recognition and his background in the Big Ten … is going to be tough" (THEATHLETIC.com, 1/19).
