Padres Radio Voice Ted Leitner Calls It A Career After 41 Years In Booth

Padres radio voice Ted Leitner "has transitioned to another role with the team" after 41 seasons in the booth, according to Kevin Acee of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. Leitner will now work with "speaking engagements and other community events." The 73-year-old Leitner said, "It was just kind of a conglomeration of things in my mind and my age and my health and other things. I thought the full package of 162 ... That's a bit much right now." He cited getting "time to spend with his four grandchildren as the biggest factor in prompting the move." Acee reported Jesse Agler, Leitner's booth partner the past five seasons, "will be the Padres' primary play-by-play voice and will be joined by color commentator Tony Gwynn Jr." Meanwhile, Leitner is "under contract ... through 2022" to called San Diego State Univ. football and basketball games, which he has done "most years" since '79 (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 1/15).
