Warriors' Dub Hub Looks To Involve Fans Digitally In Pandemic Season

Dub Hub allows 120 fans to switch between four camera angles to watch Warriors broadcastNBAE/GETTY IMAGES

With no fans in the stands, the Warriors are turning to Dub Hub, a "multi-dimensional interactive setup that allows players to experience fan reactions on a courtside LED board and also gives fans a peek behind the curtain of an NBA game," according to Rusty Simmons of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Dub Hub includes 120 fans, who are "given a link that allows them access to a Zoom-like meeting." Fans may "switch between four camera angles to watch the broadcast, use basketball-specific emoticons while cheering and get visits from special guests." The 120 fans are "cycled between two screens that are prominently shown near half court during broadcasts." The Dub Hub "had to come together quickly," and with only about a week of experiments before its Jan. 1 home opener, there were "troubles with links and audio." Warriors Senior VP/Marketing Jen Millet said that what started as an "idea to assure 'it doesn't look like a half-empty high school gym,' ... is turning into something that offers a sense of community during a pandemic that makes that difficult to find." The Dub Hub has been used for "season-ticket holders, partner hospitality and community groups, like educators and first responders." There also is "room to add to the viewing experience, which includes an option of four cameras: the broadcast, under the basket, the Dub Hub and the scoreboard" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 1/17).
