Binge Watching With The Pistons’ Erika Swilley

Swilley is about all things Shonda Rhimes, including her new Netflix project, "Bridgerton"ERIKA SWILLEY

This week, THE DAILY caught up with Pistons VP/Community & Social Responsibility ERIKA SWILLEY to break down what she’s watching and listening to. Some responses have been edited for clarity and brevity.

  • Being bi-racial and having a white mom, it was interesting to listen to the “NICE WHITE PARENTS” podcast and learn more about American public schools and the role that white parents play on school reform around education and segregation. The podcast looks at a school in Brooklyn and its desegregation history in a school with predominantly Black and brown youth.
  • I have known QUENTIN RICHARDSON, co-host of the “KNUCKLEHEADS" podcast, since high school, and I love to hear the hilarious stories that he and co-host DARIUS MILES get. A lot of their guests are from our hometown of Chicago. Some of my favorite episodes include TIM HARDAWAY, STEVE NASH, CANDACE PARKER and, of course, KOBE BRYANT.
  • NICOLE KIDMAN and HUGH GRANT were incredible in “THE UNDOING," a six-episode series that has you on the edge of your seat. Based in N.Y., it's about a wealthy couple whose seemingly perfect life starts to crumble after a mother of a student at their son’s prestigious school ends up dead.
  • SHONDA RHIMES, the mastermind behind “SCANDAL” and “GREY’S ANATOMY,” does it again with “BRIDGERTON,” a period piece with modern-day twists. The show sees women vying for suitors (think “PRIDE & PREJUDICE” meets “GOSSIP GIRL”). I love that while it is set in the Regency era, the cast is very diverse, something that, unfortunately, is not the norm.
  • Working in what is considered a male-dominant industry, I love the way that BETH does not allow her gender to hold her back in “THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT.” And, while I take pride in being organized at work, “GET ORGANIZED WITH THE HOME EDIT” was a good reminder that organization at home is just as important and provides a sense of calm.
