Pelicans One Of Six NBA Teams Allowing Fans This Season

Pelicans hosted about 750 fans -- 4% of Smoothie King Center's capacity -- at their game MondayNBAE/GETTY IMAGES

The Pelicans are "one of six teams that have allowed fans into their building this season," having played three games at Smoothie King Center so far, according to Christian Clark of NOLA.com. Around 750 fans -- 4% of Smoothie King Center's capacity -- "watched Monday's overtime loss to the Pacers." The number of event staff employees "remains relatively unchanged." Pre-pandemic, there were about 700 event staff employees at a game, and on Monday, there were "546 event staff employees." There are "multiple event staff employees stationed outside of every restroom and concession stand," and periodically throughout the game, they "disinfect their stations." Since fans are not allowed within 30 feet of the court, the Pelicans "have searched for premium seating substitutes." They added "16 semi-private catered boxes on the main concourse of the baseline that sits next to the Pelicans' tunnel." The "Loge Boxes" sit anywhere between four and six people (NOLA.com, 1/5).
