Warriors Being Exempt From Isolation Mandate Raises Concerns

The Warriors will be "exempt from any isolation mandate" despite S.F.'s current 10-day quarantine for all travel from outside the Bay Area, highlighting the fact that athletes are "being held to a different standard than the rest of us," according to Ann Killion of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Instead of "modeling how to comply with a quarantine, teams are being exempted." Over the bubbled summer, the NBA was a "model of compliance and seriousness." But now, by being exempted from orders the "rest of us are expected to follow, teams’ elitism and exclusivity are being rewarded." Killion: "That’s why I have to laugh at the concept, which has been floated in recent days, that pro athletes should get to jump the line on vaccinations because they can be role models to communities that might be skeptical of vaccines." In some cases, sports teams are "great role models," but being exempt from a "serious rule that the rest of us are expected to follow is not such a case" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 12/29).
