Trae Young Enters Adidas' Upper Echelon With Signature Shoe

Young's father hinted the deal will be the third-biggest for Adidas, behind James Harden and Damian LillardADIDAS

Hawks G Trae Young will have a “signature shoe in autumn 2021” from Adidas, becoming one of fewer than 20 NBA players with a signature line, according to Berry Tramel of the OKLAHOMAN. Young made the announcement on yesterday’s episode of ESPN’s “The Jump.” Financial terms of the deal were unavailable, but Rayford Young, Trae’s father, indicated that it “will be the third-biggest for Adidas, behind only” Rockets G James Harden and Trail Blazers G Damian Lillard. He added that his son “drew interest from Nike and Under Armour, but that Adidas wanted to lock him up with a five-year contract” (OKLAHOMAN, 12/10). Trae Young said he was “very involved” in the design of the Trae Young 1s. Young: “I want this shoe to represent me, I want this shoe to represent who I am. This shoe is going to do that.” ESPN’s Rachel Nichols said, “I don't think people sometimes realize that a lot of guys have shoe sponsorships, but a signature shoe is still pretty rare in this league” (“The Jump,” ESPN, 12/9). Young added, "I’ve dreamed of this since I was a kid. I mean, just growing up, putting on those shoes, going outside in your front yard or going to that YMCA and just working out -- to be able to have my own shoe and for that next kid to feel that same way is going to be pretty cool" (“SportsCenter,” ESPN, 12/10).
