Catapult Buys Online Learning Platform Science for Sport

Catapult Sports has acquired subscription-based education platform Science of Sport, which offers online courses and content related to sports science and performance. The company was founded in 2016 by former Cardiff City FC head of academy sport science Owen Walker.

Catapult, a leading provider of elite wearables and video analysis, had partnered with Science for Sport earlier this year before purchasing the site late last month, with an eye toward continued development of its offerings for strength coaches and sport scientists at all levels of sport.

Among Science for Sport’s affiliations is the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), which honors continuing education credits for the site’s programs.

“There aren’t a lot of outlets out there that I think are helping close that gap of the science and the technology and how to use it and put it all together to create better performance,” says Catapult CEO Will Lopes. “They are a NSCA company that was doing some really interesting stuff on education and the courses they were building, and I think we could help them scale that so they get past just the elite side of the house.”
