AHL, Genius Sports Sign Deal for Betting Data

Betting data distributor Genius Sports Group has signed a long-term exclusive agreement with the American Hockey League, the main developmental league of the NHL.

Genius Sports will distribute real-time team and player stats, and livestreams of AHL games to regulated sports betting operators around the world. Last week, Canada’s federal government introduced bill C-13. If passed, single-event sports wagering would be legalized across Canada’s 10 provinces and three territories.

All 31 NHL teams currently have affiliates in the AHL, which has 27 teams in the U.S. and four in Canada. Because of the pandemic, the AHL canceled its 2019-20 season in May and pushed back the start of its 2020-21 season to Feb. 5.
