Media Notes

In Spokane, Vince Grippi notes ESPN’s Holly Rowe “had to fill in as the play-by-play voice for a couple of minutes” during last night’s Gonzaga-West Virginia game. Rowe was in Indianapolis, where the game was played, as the sideline reporter, while Dan Shulman and Jay Bilas called it remotely. However, the connection “dropped like a bad cellphone signal” during the first half. Rowe “handled it well, but was obviously relieved when the connection was restored” (Spokane SPOKESMAN-REVIEW, 12/3).

GOLDEN GOAL: In N.Y., Andrew Marchand writes CBS’ All-Access UEFA Champions League “The Golazo Show” is "awesome," as it is NFL Red Zone for "club soccer’s biggest tournament." The idea of NFL Red Zone "emanated from Europe, so this is full circle." What "wasn’t excellent was the all-access app crashing for a period of time" yesterday for some users (N.Y. POST, 12/3).

DISCOVERING NEW OPTIONS: The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER's Natalie Jarvey reported Discovery yesterday "hosted a virtual investor day in which it unveiled plans for direct-to-consumer offering Discovery+." The service will "bow on Jan. 4, according to its website." And the company revealed that it will "cost $5 per month with ads and $7 per month without ads." Discovery said that the offering will "give subscribers access to more than 55,000 episodes of more than 2,500 shows" (HOLLYWOODREPORTER.com, 12/2).
