Cubs Promote 15 Baseball Ops Staff As Search For New GM Continues

Cubs President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer "promoted 15 members of his baseball operations department," but he "still is looking" for a GM, according to Mark Gonzales of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. Jeff Greenberg and Craig Breslow "were named Assistant GMs, joining Randy Bush." Other promotions include Chris Moore to VP/Research & Development; Matt Dorey to VP/Player Development; Louie Eljaua to VP/Int'l Scouting and Special Assistant to the President & GM; Alex Suarez to Senior Dir of Int'l Player Development & Operations; Greg Davey to Dir of Baseball Operations; and Jeremy Greenhouse to Dir of Strategic Modeling in the baseball operations and research and development group. Hoyer last week said that he "would look outside the organization to find his replacement as GM" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 12/1). Hoyer also said that he has "no timeline on hiring a general manager and considering they could save more money by waiting, the decision could be pushed until early 2021, if it's decided prior to next season at all." THE ATHLETIC's Sahadev Sharma noted D-backs Senior VP & Assistant GM Amiel Sawdaye has "repeatedly come up in baseball circles as a potential candidate." Former Marlins President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill "could be a candidate as well." He has "quietly built a strong reputation with the Marlins rebuild going smoother and quicker than many expected" (THEATHLETIC.com, 11/30).
