Olympic Organizers Plan Test Events for Tokyo 2021

Tokyo Olympics organizers have scheduled 18 test events that will run from March through May of next year ahead of the Summer Olympics scheduled to begin July 23 in Tokyo.

According to the Associated Press, at least four of the test events will involve athletes from Japan and abroad, including competitions across swimming, gymnastics, diving, and volleyball. Some events will admit spectators from Japan, though fans from abroad will not be permitted.

“The test events will test three essential elements: the field of play (competition area) for each event, the use of technology, and workforce—with a particular focus on technical aspects including countermeasures against COVID-19,” the Tokyo Organizing Committee said in an announcement
