Do You Believe in Miracles? NWHL Secures Lake Placid

The National Women’s Hockey League will play a condensed 2021 regular season and playoffs at the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y. The season will be held in a bubble environment without fans from Jan. 23 to Feb. 5.

All six NWHL teams will play five regular-season games (one against each team) before advancing to the Isobel Cup Playoffs. The six teams will include expansion club Toronto Six, the first NWHL team based outside the U.S. Yale Pathology Labs will provide regular COVID-19 testing throughout the season.

All players will receive their full salary despite the shortened season, according to a press release from the NWHL. Last season’s Isobel Cup Final between the Boston Pride and Minnesota Whitecaps was scheduled for March 13 but had to be canceled due to COVID-19.
