Lurie Missing Eagles Game Seen As Possible Sign Of Frustration

Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie earlier this month for the "first time in years -- and perhaps ever -- didn’t travel" to a game as his "frustration with his team has been mounting," according to sources cited by Jeff McLane of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. His absence for the Nov. 22 game against the Browns was believed by many at the team's facility "to primarily be an extension of his feelings." An Eagles spokesperson said that Lurie "was being overly cautious, in light of the coronavirus pandemic, because he was planning to visit his mother on Thanksgiving" (PHILADELPIHA INQUIRER, 11/29). In Philadelphia, David Murphy writes the fact that Lurie "signs the paychecks means that he alone can fix his football team's predicament," and that could mean finding a new coach "who feels he is pedaling in the same direction as the other guy on the bike." There is a feeling that "part of the frustration Doug Pederson has betrayed throughout the season is a sign of some sort of disconnect with the front office." The front office over the past year "has done everything in its power to put Pederson in a place where he feels he cannot succeed." Murphy: "If Lurie wants to enjoy watching his team again, he should look at Howie Roseman and his front office and consider one thing. Apart from one magical season, the last 10 years in Eagles history have been marked by mediocrity and dysfunction. There has been only one constant throughout. ... It isn't the coach" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 11/30).
