Detroit Brewery Stops Producing Beer Over Barry Sanders Image Issue

Sanders is not named on label of "Same Old Lager," but the player shown appears to be in his likenessEASTERN MARKET BREWING CO.

A Lions-themed lager "is no more," as Detroit-based Eastern Market Brewing Co. indicated that it will cease sales and production of "Same Old Lager" after Pro Football HOFer Barry Sanders "threatened legal action for using his likeness on the label without his permission," according to Brian Manzullo of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. Sanders yesterday tweeted, "I have no affiliation with this company, and they are using my image without any permission. My legal team is working through the process to shut this down ASAP." Manzullo notes although Sanders "is not named on the label or in the marketing of the beer, the Lions player on the label is wearing Sanders' No. 20 and appears to be an 8-bit version of him" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 11/24).
