During a press conference held Monday in Tokyo, IOC president Thomas Bach said he’s confident that fans will be able to attend next year’s Olympic Games, which are scheduled to begin July 23 in Japan’s capital.

“In order to protect the Japanese people and out of respect for the Japanese people, the IOC will undertake great effort so that as many [people] as possible — Olympic participants and visitors will arrive here [with a] vaccine, if by then a vaccine is available,” Bach said, according to the Associated Press. The WNBL, Australia’s top women’s basketball league, is playing its entire six-week season inside a North Queensland bubble without fans due to the pandemic.
